How to Move Forward in Faith When You’re Unsure

Scripture

Acts 5:29 — “We must obey God rather than men.”

Sitting in the Uncertainty

There are moments in our walk with God where something stirs quietly inside us — a sense that we are being led somewhere, yet nothing feels fully clear.

We don’t have all the answers. We don’t feel completely ready. And sometimes, we wonder if we’re even getting it right.

I’ve come to recognize that kind of space — the in-between. The place where you’ve started something, you’re showing up, you’re trying… but there’s still a quiet question lingering in the background:

Am I really doing what I’m supposed to do?

Maybe you’ve felt that too. Maybe there’s something on your heart — a desire to encourage, to create, to move in a new direction — but hesitation keeps meeting you there.

Something That Made Me Pause

While reading Acts 5:29 recently, something Peter said stayed with me:

“We must obey God rather than men.”

What stood out wasn’t loud or complicated. It was simple.

The apostles didn’t wait until everything made sense. They didn’t wait until they felt fully prepared. They kept moving forward in what they knew — and that stopped me in my tracks.

Because without even realizing it, many of us wait for clarity before we allow ourselves to take a step. We want reassurance, a full picture, a guarantee that we won’t get it wrong.

But I’m beginning to see that clarity doesn’t always come first. Sometimes, it meets us along the way.

Starting Without Having It All Figured Out

If things feel uncertain right now, you are not alone in that.

You don’t need a perfect plan. You don’t need perfect confidence. You don’t need everything mapped out before you begin.

Sometimes, all that’s required is a willing heart and one small step forward.

The men and women we read about in Scripture didn’t always feel ready either. They simply showed up with what they had and trusted God with the rest. And maybe that’s where the freedom is — not in having everything right, but in being willing to move, even when it’s slow, even when it’s small.

What I’m Holding On To

Here’s something I’ve been learning:

We don’t have to wait until everything feels clear to begin.

We’re allowed to grow as we go. We’re allowed to learn along the way. We’re allowed to take one step without seeing the whole path ahead.

And if something has been placed on your heart — something meaningful, something that won’t leave you — there may be a purpose behind that. Even if you don’t fully understand it yet.

God Meets You There

There’s a quiet comfort in knowing we are not expected to figure everything out on our own.

God meets us in the middle of it. In the uncertainty. In the small steps. Not once everything is perfect — but right where we are.

So, if you’re in that place right now, unsure but still feeling that gentle nudge — maybe the next step doesn’t have to be big.

Maybe it just must be taken.

A Quiet Prayer

Lord, thank You for meeting me in moments of uncertainty. You see the questions, the hesitation, and the desire to follow You even when the path isn’t clear.

Help me to trust You more than my own understanding. Give me courage to take small steps, even when I don’t feel fully ready. Quiet the fear that tells me I need to have everything figured out.

Remind me that You are with me at every step. Guide me gently and give me peace as I move forward.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
